Hello, I'm Don the owner of Mrfixitappliance.com we are a service company that repairs
appliance's.I want the public to know that the new machines out their are not lasting as long
as machines that were built 10 to 20 years ago. It does not matter what brand it is :
kenmore, whirlpool, GE, Maytag, Jennair, Viking, Subzero, you get the idea!!
In my opinion the older machines were built like tanks! They have less electronics in them
and in my opinion they were built with better parts.
I have been repairing all kinds of things since I was a child and I have noticed that these
newer appliance's as well as other things are not built to last. We are becoming more and
more a through away society.
Before you buy a new machine keep in mind that almost anything you buy today will have a
electronic control board in it and the more gadgets the refrigerator or washer has the more
things that can go wrong with it. If your machine is in good condition and has been well
maintained then you should think about repairing your appliance. Have a service company
give you a quote, and while he is their ask him if there is any preventative maintenance you
or he can do.
For those of you that I could not convince and your almost out the door to purchase a new
appliance I have a couple of Tips for you. First, do a litter home work, research the
appliance your going to buy.Do a search online about the appliance you want to buy to see
if customers are having a problem with it, and don't just look at one review page, find some
blogs. I Was at a customers home looking at her LG dishwasher that she said she paid
almost $3000.00 for and was having a problem with the pump and motor so I personally
looked up a LG Dishwasher online and to my shocking surprise it had 3000 complaints on
it. Second, when your at the check out ready to pay for your new machine there going to
want you to purchase a extended warranty on the appliance, If you don't have a home
warranty that covers your appliance's and your spending a lot of money on the machine you
should get the warranty. As I said, the new machines can have more than one control board
and lighting and power serges can cause problems with these newer appliance's. Third, If
your in the market for a washer, I can say that I am happy with front load washers, they do
save a lot of water, when a front load washer fills it only uses a few gallons of water
compared to 10 gallons or more on a top load washer every time it fills.
I hope this information was helpful and I will try to keep the Information up to date.

|SHOULD YOU REPAIR YOUR APPLIANCE ?
|Servicing the greater Houston Texas area
We have appliance repair Tech's for Houston Tx, Katy Tx, League City Tx, Baytown Tx, La Porte Texas
I'm here to let the public know how important it is for
everyone to keep your appliance's maintained and
give you a few tips on what you can do .
First! on all appliance's. You should always consult
your manual! The manufacture usually will give you
good advice on the proper way of maintaining your
machine. If you don't have the manual first try the
Internet or the manufacture to get one.
Lets get right to it! We will start with your Gas Dryer,
Did you know that the Gas Dryer is one of the leading
causes of house fires? Well it is! And you can help
prevent this from happing even if you have a electric
dryer you should still. Keep your dryer vent cleaned
or replace it. It does not matter what kind you have,
Gas or Electric, or what kind of dryer you have. You
get the idea.
You should make sure it is maintained. And if you
cant do it yourself have a professional service
company check your venting on your dryer. One more
thing, If it takes the dryer a long time to dry your
cloths, Your vent may be clogged or restricted and
you should have it serviced, this will save you time
Lets move on to the refrigerator. Most refrigerators
like: Subzero, Kenmore, Whirlpool, kitchen Aid,
Frigidaire, Maytag, Lg, Ge, have a condenser. This
condenser is a cooling system for your refrigerators
compressor, and the hotter it gets the harder it has to
work and can shut down and even destroy the
compressor if it gets too hot.
Some of these condensers are in a location where the
customer can clean it. Of course, like I said before,
you should look at your manual first and it should tell
you how to clean your coils. You can use a coil
cleaning brush that you should be able to purchase at
home depot or lows.
Just ask for a coil cleaning brush for your refrigerator.
You will prolong the life of your refrigerator and save
money by doing this maintenance on your refrigerator.
And, of course you can call a appliance repair
company like mine (Mr fix it appliance).

Service and repair information
The following is useful information about major appliances. And examples of problems you may have.
You should always consult your manual! The manufacture usually will give you good advice on the proper way of maintaining your machine. If you don't have the manual first try the Internet or the
manufacture to get one.
Example: My Kenmore Electric Dryer will run but does not heat.
Try: Checking your breaker box, Find the breaker for your dryer and shut it off and turn it back on then try your dryer. Note: some breakers in your main box need to be pulled all the way back to the off
position to reset the breaker. (Not all but some do!)
Note: Gas or Electric Dryer
A clothes dryer can catch fire! Reported by the U.S. Fire Administration in January 2007 over 12,000 dryer fires occur every year! A clogged dryer vent adds to this risk. Keep your dryer vent clear and
clean, this could save you a lot more than money. If your cloths take a long time to dry you might have a clogged vent. Flappers on dryer vent caps can stick causing this problem; a kinked dryer vent
hose can cause a log dry time, the vent could be full of lint, make sure it is maintained. And if you can't do it yourself have a professional service company check you're venting on your dryer.
Let's move on to the refrigerator. Most refrigerators like: Subzero, Kenmore, Whirlpool, kitchen Aid, and Maytag have a condenser. This condenser is a cooling system for your refrigerators compressor,
and the hotter it gets the harder it has to work and can shut down and even destroy the compressor if it gets too hot, A fan blows over this condenser and keeps it cool. When the condenser get dirty the
compressor gets hotter and takes longer to do its job, this cost you more money in electricity and shortens the life of the compressor. Some of these condensers are in a location where the customer
can clean it. Of course, like I said before, you should look at your manual first and it should tell you how to clean your coils. You can use a coil cleaning brush that you should be able to purchase at
home depot or lows. Just ask for a coil cleaning brush for your refrigerator. You will prolong the life of your refrigerator and save money by doing this maintenance on your refrigerator
Example: My garbage disposal will not come on.
Try: See if at the bottom of your disposal has a reset switch. (some times it is a little red button ) Just push it in. Try your disposal. If it hums then turn it off. Your motor is bad or it is jammed.
Example: My GE Dishwasher Does on work at all, No lights.
Try: Some Dishwashers are connected to a wall switch in the kitchen and if it is not on, the dishwasher won't come on at all. Check all wall switches near the appliance and GFI Resets.
Example: My Dishwasher will not drain.
Note: if you recently had a disposal installed they may not have knocked out the plug for the dishwasher drain. You can check this by pulling off the dishwasher drain hose that is connected to the
disposal, put a pen or pencil in the hole that the drain hose was connected to and see if it stops about 1 to 2 inches. If it does then the plug is still in and needs to be removed.
Example: My Magic Chief Oven Won't Come on
Try: Some older ovens have a mechanical clock that has time bake on it... It must be in manual position for it to allow user to operate it. If it is not in manual the oven is operating in auto time bake, and
won't come on until it reaches the time it was set too.
Try: you can also check your breaker box to see if your breaker has tripped. Of course if these tips don't help you, you should call an Appliance Repair Company. But....before you call an appliance
service company keep in mind the following:
An average service fee is about $50 to $75, this does not include the repair labor or the cost of the part. This makes the average Washer repair or Dryer repair about $180.00 + Tax. Of course your
appliance may have a more expensive repair or you could have a very minor and inexpensive appliance repair.
So let's ask a few questions. How old is the Dishwasher? Or how old is the dryer? What shape is the Refrigerator in? Has it been maintained? What will it cost me to buy a new front load washer or that
new stainless steel dishwasher? Oh yeah - and what name brand are you going to buy if you decide to buy a new appliance? A Whirlpool or Kitchen Aid, or How about Viking or Bosh? Don't forget that
extended warranty they will try to sell you at the checkout. Are you going to purchase a low end machine or high end appliance?
As I have said before, An Older Appliance is built like a Tank! If you have an older Appliance and don't mind the look and it has been taken care of over the years. I would recommend that you fix it. Now
if your appliance is not that old. (I bet you wish you would have read this article before you bought your appliance) It's going to depend on what is broken and how old it is! The first thing is, did you buy
that extended warranty? If not, then what is the warranty of what you have? (Example: A lot of refrigerator manufactures give you a 1 year on all parts and 5 years on the compressor and or seal system
of the refrigerator. You will have to check on your appliance and the warranty information that came with it). If you don't know call the manufacture of your appliance and have your Model & Serial
number ready for them, they will usually help you determine your warranty.
